Critical damage appears to ignore (or greatly reduce) the target's defense. A typical weapon can do either 2 or 3 times it's attack rating in critical damage. Most daggers do more than 4 times their attack rating in critical damage. The Umbral Dagger has the highest critical modifier in the game, at least for backstabs. 1 The Convergence. The mace is IMO one of, if not the best, melee weapon for a caster, let alone it the only magic infused weapon you find and if you don't get lucky with early faintstone the only magic weapon for 3/4+ of the game. The regular dagger by far is doing the most on backstabs so far. Regular dagger is doing almost 500 more than my fully upgraded rapier.
Dark/Chaos build. Both infusions run off the same stats. 30/30 for weapons, 40/40 for Flames, and 45/45 for the Crystal Chime, Cautha's Chime, Sunless Talisman, and Izalith Staff. Murky Longstaff seems to really only scale with Int effectively but still works well with Dark Sorceries with 45 Int and base Fth req.
