The latter is a tedious job (in case it's caught in time), that can be avoided by replacing the tensioner. Driving with a busted tensioner and a busted chain guide rail will kill the engine.
P0011 is cam timing out of spec with vanos off, probably the trigger wheel is over advanced on bank 1. When you initially timed your engine the trigger wheel (s) had to be less than +/- 10% from their perfect mechanical position. You were probably just barely within that spec.
